Retailer’s Education Project

Youth Tobacco Act

The Macomb County Tobacco Prevention Coalition concentrates one of its objectives on decreasing tobacco sales to underage youth. This retailer’s education project, called “Tobacco-Teens-And You – A Merchant’s Packet on the Youth Tobacco Act” is an educational initiative for retailers to check I.D. of young people in order to reduce the sales of tobacco to minors and to say “Thanks for Asking” to the many retailers who follow the law.

The Macomb County Tobacco Prevention Coalition will provide a display board and educational handoutes, which highlights the negative health consequences of tobacco use and the serious health effects of secondhand smoke, to school and community health fairs. 

Tobacco Education: Show and Tell

School-based interactive tobacco prevention presentation for grades three and four. Focuses on the 4,700 deadly poisons in cigarette smoke. Encourages sharing tobacco information with family members. Promotes lifelong commitment never to smoke by signing a “no-smoking” pledge.

Tobacco Education: Truth or Dare

School-based interactive video and tobacco prevention presentation for middle through high school. Graphically demonstrates the deadly effects of cigarettes and spit tobacco. Reveals how smoking speeds the aging process. Dramatically portrays the consequences of behavioral choices today on personal health tomorrow.

School based video on a tobacco prevention program for middle school students in grades 6–9. The lessons in this program are designed to provide educators with engaging and effective tobacco prevention lesson plans.
