Macomb County Tobacco Statistics for Adults
(Source: 2009 Macomb County Behavioral Risk Factor Survey)
This was a cross-sectional telephone survey of 1086 adults in the county.
More males were current smokers than females (22.7% vs. 18.2%). Although this is a reduction and reversal compared to the 2005 findings, both male and female smoking rates have decreased from a high of 32.6% in 1999 to 22.7% in 2009 for males, and from a peak of 29.5% in 2002 for females to 18.2% in 2009. The overall trend is downwards.
The majority of smokers are found in the 18-54 year age group. Smoking rates have fallen overall among all age-groups of residents EXCEPT 65-74 year old residents. The rates have remained unchanged since 2005 among 35-44 year old residents of the County.
